Hertha BSC continued their impressive start under Bruno Labbadia with a 2-2 draw away to 10-man RB Leipzig on Wednesday.
The visitors took an early lead with a fine volley from a corner by Marko Guijic before Lukas Klostermann headed a first half equaliser for the hosts.
Julian Nagelsmann’s side were reduced to 10 men just after the hour when Marcel Halstenberg received a second yellow card. However, they were able to take the lead five minutes later when Patrik Schick’s hopeful effort from 20 yards managed to squirm through Rune Jarstein.
Peter Gulacsi’s goal had been well protected all game but the Hungarian had another goal against his game when Krzysztof Piatek converted from the penalty spot after Matheus Cunha had been fouled.
Here are Bundesliga 365’s player ratings from RB Leipzig 2-2 Hertha BSC:
Peter Gulacsi 6 – Didn’t have a chance with the goal and had little else to do all game.
Tyler Adams 8 – Busy game down the right-hand side after being a late addition to the starting lineup when Kevin Kampl dropped out just before kickoff. Looked comfortable defensively and in possession going forward from full-back.
Dayot Upamecano 8 – Commanding performance, looking after Vedad Ibisevic and picking off a few through ball attempts.
Lukas Klostermann 8 – Excellent header to equalise for RB Leipzig in the first half. Didn’t allow much past him defensively.
Marcel Halstenberg 5 – Picked up two yellow cards from three fouls to be dismissed just after the hour.
Dani Olmo 5 – Another fairly quiet and ineffective game from the Spaniard who was subsequently replaced just before the hour.
Marcel Sabitzer 6 – Hertha BSC saw a lot more possession than many would have expected heading into the game, particularly down the middle of the park.
Konrad Laimer 7 – Saw a fair bit of the ball and moved it forward. Busy game sitting in front of the back four.
Christopher Nkunku 6 – A couple of nice deliveries from set pieces but rarely got into the game in open play and replaced midway through the second half.
Patrik Schick 7 – Didn’t have too many touches and fortunate to Rune Jarstein’s howler to get on the scoresheet.
Timo Werner 5 – Didn’t do a lot with the ball in the final third and failed to fire a single shot in on goal all afternoon.
Ademola Lookman (34 mins) 4 – A couple of nice touches but nothing productive in the end. Rash challenge to concede a late penalty.
Angelino (26 mins) 5 – Brought on to fill the vacated left-back role but failed to help his side see out the win.
Willi Orban (13 mins) N/A – Defensive change late on at 2-1 and with a man down but RB Leipzig conceded a penalty soon after.
Hannes Wolf (13 mins) N/A – An extra body in the middle of the park to try prevent Hertha seeing too much of the ball in Leipzig’s half.
