Borussia Dortmund ran out 2-0 winners away to VfL Wolfsburg on Saturday afternoon to make it two wins to nil since the 2019-20 Bundesliga season restarted last weekend.
Raphael Guerreiro and Achraf Hakimi scored in either half to pick up the valuable three points to close the gap on Bayern Munich to one point before the leaders host Eintracht Frankfurt in this evening’s game.
It wasn’t all plain sailing for Dortmund on Saturday though as they lost key centre-back Mats Hummels. The experienced German defender was replaced at half-time by Emre Can to partner Manuel Akanji and Lucasz Piszczek in Lucien Favre’s back three.
With Bayern Munich visiting Signal Iduna Park on Tuesday afternoon, Dortmund fans will be keen for Hummels to be back to full match fitness and starting the crunch game versus the record champions of Germany.
In the past few minutes, Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc has given an injury update on the former German international. As published on Dortmund’s official Twitter account, Zorc has stated that the defender had complaints about his achilles tendon and that the club “hope” he can face their rivals midweek. The full quote is as follows:
“I spoke briefly to the doctor: Mats had complaints about his achilles tendon. We hope that he can play again on Tuesday.”
