Bayern Munich and Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has signed an extension to his contract until June 2023.
The 34-year-old has been the number 1 at the Allianz Arena since his arrival from Schalke 04 in 2011.
Neuer has won the Bundesliga title for seven consecutive seasons in his eight previous seasons with the club and is currently a key part of the team that currently sit four points clear of Borussia Dortmund at the top of the league. He also won the 2013 Champions League with the record champions of Germany after finishing runners-up to Chelsea in his first season.
He is widely regarded as the best goalkeeper in the world despite suffering from injuries over the past two seasons. Manuel Neuer was Germany’s first choice goalkeeper when they won the 2014 FIFA World Cup and currently has 92 caps.
The goalkeeper was quoted on the club’s official website as saying:
“I look to the future with great optimism. I feel very comfortable and at home in Bavaria. FC Bayern are one of Europe’s top football clubs.”
Bayern Munich host Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga on Saturday before a quick turnaround to face Borussia Dortmund at Signal Iduna Park at 18:00 on Tuesday 26 May.
