Bayern Munich continued their dominant start to 2020 with a 6-0 thrashing of 1899 Hoffenheim at the Rhein Neckar Arena on Saturday afternoon.
The German Bundesliga leaders raced into a 3-0 lead inside the opening quarter-of-an-hour with goals from Serge Gnabry, Joshua Kimmich and Joshua Zirkzee.
Philippe Coutinho added a fourth to give an emphatic scoreline even before half-time. The Brazilian attacker scored his second two minutes into the second half.
Leon Goretzka scored the final goal just after the hour mark but the football was quickly forgotten when the game was temporarily held up in the 78th minute due to defamatory banners protesting against Hoffenheim majority owner Dietmar Hopp, displayed in the Bayern Munich supporters section.
When the players were eventually recalled back onto the pitch to complete the game about 20 minutes later, both teams simply passed the ball around to each other with no commitment to the game.
Hoffenheim were never at the races today and are now winless in their last four Bundesliga matches. They are down in 8th position and still in the hunt for a Europa League spot.
Victory has moved Hansi Flick’s side four points ahead of RB Leipzig below them, with the title challengers at home to Bayer 04 Leverkusen on Sunday.
