Bayern Munich ran out resounding 3-0 winners away to Chelsea in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 tie on Tuesday evening.
Serge Gnabry scored twice in the opening 10 minutes of the second half before Robert Lewandowski all but put the tie to bed in the final 15 minutes.
Manuel Neuer’s goal was rarely tested as the Bundesliga leaders showed their class over the English Premier League side.
Here are our player ratings from Chelsea 0-3 Bayern Munich:
Manuel Neuer 7 – The German number one made a couple of standard saves but generally it was a comfortable evening for Manuel Neuer.
Benjamin Pavard 7 – Marcos Alonso did have an effort on goal but otherwise Benjamin Pavard had a stress-free game in keeping a clean sheet from right-back. The French international pushed forward to put a couple of crosses into the box himself.
Jerome Boateng 8 – Solid performance at centre-back, with Olivier Giroud seeing little of the ball and forcing only one save from Neuer.
David Alaba 8 – The Bayern Munich defence was rarely threatened by the Premier League side, with Mason Mount’s long range efforts making up more than half of their total attempts.
Alphonso Davies 9 – Excellent performance once again from the teenager. Alphonso Davies’ assist for Bayern’s third goal was sensational. Reece James offered nothing going forward from right wingback for the hosts as Davies’ pace always came out on top.
Joshua Kimmich 8 – Saw a lot of the ball and was ambitious in possession at times. Picked off a few Chelsea passes to break up attacks.
Thiago Alcantara 9 – Won the ball back time and time again for the visitors, whether by intercepting passes or simply tackling the opposition. The Spaniard rarely gave the ball away either.
Kingsley Coman 6 – Appeared to pull up at the end of the first half but played on 20 minutes after the break. Kingsley Coman offered little in this game.
Thomas Muller 9 – Excellent in the number 10 role, creating chances, getting himself in goalscoring positions and hitting the bar with a fine header towards the end of the first half. N’Golo Kante’s absence was a huge loss to Chelsea as neither of their midfielders could keep track of Thomas Muller.
Serge Gnabry 9 – Another excellent performance in London for Serge Gnabry, who scored the first two goals. Only beaten to the man of the match performance by Robert Lewandowski in our opinion.
Robert Lewandowski 10 – An unselfish performance from the Bayern Munich striker this evening in setting up Gnabry for the first goal when Robert Lewandowski could have shot himself. He also setup the second before tapping home the third. Chelsea simply had no answer for the goal machine.
Philippe Coutinho (26 mins) 5 – A quiet performance from the substitute who was introduced at 2-0. Philippe Coutinho offered no threat on goal and rarely saw the ball.
Corentin Tolisso (7 mins) N/A – Defensive replacement for Serge Gnabry as Hansi Flick was comfortable with a thee-goal margin at this point.
Leon Goretzka (2 mins) N/A – A late appearance next to his name on Tuesday.
