Bayern Munich centre-back Javi Martinez is back in full training, the Bundesliga leaders have confirmed.
The 31-year-old has been sidelined with a thigh injury suffered during a 2-0 win at home to VfL Wolfsburg in the final game before the winter break, back on Saturday 21 December 2019.
Martinez returned to full training on Sunday morning which included the practice match.
Bayern Munich’s next game is away to English Premier League side Chelsea on Tuesday 25 February in their Champions League last 16 first leg. However, this game will surely come too soon for the Spanish international.
Javi Martinez had made 11 Bundesliga appearances (5 starts) and all six Champions League group stage games (4 starts) during the first half of the season. His first game back could come on Saturday when Bayern Munich travel to the Rhein-Neckar Arena to face 1899 Hoffenheim.
Bayern Munich have been plagued with defensive injuries this season, with Niklas Sule still sidelined and Lucas Hernandez making his long-awaited return in Friday night’s 3-2 win over Paderborn.
