Borussia Dortmund have announced that Spanish La Liga side Villarreal have completed the signing of Paco Alcacer with immediate effect.
The Spanish international travelled to his homeland on Wednesday to undergo a medical before completing the deal. Neither club has disclosed details of the transfer.
Alcacer joined BVB initially on loan from Barcelona in August 2018 before making the move on a permanent basis. He made an incredible start to life in Germany by scoring seven goals in his first 106 minutes of Bundesliga action. In all, he ended up with 23 goals in 37 league appearances.
Injuries had disrupted the 26-year-old’s 2019-20 campaign and the signing of Erling Haaland from Red Bull Salzburg at the end of December signaled the end of Alcacer’s career with the North Rhine-Westphalia club.
Borussia Dortmund’s sporting director Michael Zorc wished the striker the best of luck with his new club:
“We would like to thank Paco Alcácer for his performances in a BVB shirt and wish him good health and every sporting success for the future.”
Erling Haaland has already made an incredible impact at Borussia Dortmund, coming off the bench to score a hat-trick on his debut at FC Augsburg a fortnight ago, before netting a brace from the bench in the 5-1 win over Cologne last weekend.
