RB Leipzig coach met with Erling Haaland

RB Leipzig coach Julian Nagelsmann has confirmed he met with highly sought after striker Erling Haaland and his agent to discuss a potential move to the Bundesliga.

The 19-year-old has scored an incredible 28 goals in 22 games in all competitions this season, including eight goals in six UEFA Champions League group stage matches – scoring in his first five appearances in the competition.

Haaland’s name has been strongly linked with English Premier League giants Manchester United in recent months, but with the club struggling to even qualify for the Champions League in recent years, and with Haaland being a self-confessed Leeds United fan, we believe his next move won’t be to Old Trafford.

Recently, Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig have joined the hunt for the teenage sensation, and now, RB Leipzig head coach, Julian Nagelsmann, has confirmed meeting with the player himself. The Bundesliga’s youngest head coach told Kicker:

“I tried to explain to him in good English what my idea of football is. I think it went quite well.

“You can say relatively little after such conversations, because they are usually very one-sided. You say a lot as a coach while the agent and the player mostly listen.”

Erling Haaland has also held talks with Borussia Dortmund.

Given the connection between RB Leipzig and RB Salzburg, negotiations between the two clubs wouldn’t be a problem. Ultimately though, the decision will be down to the player.

Borussia Dortmund have had issues with Paco Alcacer’s fitness this season, resulting in Marco Reus playing the false number nine role on several occasions. Lucien Favre’s side could certainly do with an out-and-out striker in this role.

RB Leipzig already have Timo Werner up front, but the German international has been strongly linked with a move away from the club also. Haaland could be an excellent replacement should their current hitman leave the club in either January or the summer.
