1899 Hoffenheim have picked up experienced goalkeeper Philipp Pentke on a free transfer from 2. Bundesliga outfit Jahn Regensburg.
The 34-year-old will compete with Alexander Stolz for the backup role to Oliver Baumann. Pentke has signed a two-year deal at the Rhien-Neckar Arena until 30 June 2021. Hoffenheim’s first choice goalkeeper only missed one Bundesliga game last season.
Hoffenheim director of football Alexander Rosen explained that a deal had been in place for several weeks before it was officially confirmed:
“It was a complex package to put together. The final details were only clarified at the weekend, meaning we can now announced the deal.”
Philipp Pentke joined Jahn Regensburg in 2015-16 and helped the club to back-to-back promotions to the second tier in his first two seasons with the club. He has kept goal 58 times over the past two seasons with the Red Shorts in the 2. Bundesliga.
Prior to moving to the Bavarian outfit Pentke enjoyed spells at Dynamo Dresden, 1860 Munich, FC Augsburg, Energie Cottbus and Chemnitzer FC. During his career he has played 174 matches in the third division.
