Borussia Dortmund have completed the signing of Thorgan Hazard from Borussia Monchengladbach.
The 26-year-old has signed a five-year deal at Signal Iduna Park until 30 June 2024. Both clubs have agreed not to disclose the transfer fee.
Hazard made 35 appearances for Gladbach last season, scoring 13 goals and recording 12 assists as he proved himself as one of the best players in the Bundesliga once again.
The Belgian international is the brother of Chelsea superstar Eden Hazard.
BVB sporting director Michael Zorc was delighted to welcome the club’s latest signing, quoted on the club’s official website as saying:
“We’re delighted that Thorgan has decided with total conviction to join Borussia Dortmund. He’s an experienced Bundesliga professional and a Belgian international who will help us with his tempo and his finishing quality. He has consistently demonstrated his class over the course of the past few years.”
Thorgan Hazard added:
“I’m thankful for the five great years and very fond memories I had at Borussia Mönchengladbach. Now was exactly the right time to take the next step in my career. I’m proud to be able to play for Borussia Dortmund. They’re a top club with incredible fans.”
Thorgan Hazard is predominantly a left winger and will be seen as the replacement for Christian Pulisic, who is already headed to English Premier League side Chelsea.
Borussia Dortmund’s latest signing was part of the Belgium squad that finished third at the 2018 World Cup in Russia. He had been with the Die Fohlen since 2014, initially on loan from Chelsea being the move was made permanent the following year.
Hazard becomes the third summer signing for eight time champions of Germany, following the arrivals of Paco Alcacer and Nico Schulz.
