Bayer 04 Leverkusen have agreed a deal to sign playmaker Kerem Demirbay for next season.
The 25-year-old’s transfer from 1899 Hoffenheim will officially go through on 1 July. Demirbay has signed a five-year deal at the BayArena until 30 June 2024.
Demirbay has been a regular first team player with Hoffenheim for the past three seasons having struggled to establish himself at both Borussia Dortmund and HSV previously. He won two caps for the German national team in 2017 and was part of Joachim Low’s side that won the Confederation Cup in Russia that year.
Bayer 04 sporting director Simon Rolfes noted that Die Werkself have acquired a technically gifted player for next season:
“In Kerem Demirbay we have gained a technically skilled and strategic midfielder who can also score goals. Kerim was an absolute key player at Hoffenheim and he will be an important factor for us in meeting our targets next season.”
With games at home to Schalke 04 and away to Hertha BSC to finish the season, Paul Bosz’s side are trying to secure a fourth place finish and a UEFA Champions League qualifying spot.
Kerem Demirbay scored four goals and added eight assists in his 24 Bundesliga appearances (22 starts) for Hoffenheim with two games to go this season.
The attacking midfielder is creative in the middle of the park and has a good long-range shot on him. He likes to run with the ball and also works hard off the ball. He has been given the number 26 shirt.
