English Premier League giants Chelsea have reached an agreement with Borussia Dortmund for the signing of forward Christian Pulisic.
The USA international will remain on loan at Signal Iduna Park for the rest of the 2019-20 season with the Bundesliga league leaders.
Pulisic’s contract was due to expire at the end of the current campaign but the West London club have agreed to pay €64 million for the services of the 20-year-old.
Borussia Dortmund originally signed Pulisic as a 16-year-old in February 2015, making his Bundesliga debut in January 2016. He has been a regular in the first team for the past two-and-a-half seasons but is facing competition from breakthrough star Jadon Sancho this season.
Sporting director Michael Zoe told the club’s official website that it had been a dream of Pulisic’s to play in the English Premier League:
“It was always Christian’s big dream to play in the Premier League. That certainly has to do with Christian’s American background, and as a result we were unable to extend his contract. Against this background, we’ve decided to accept an extremely lucrative bid by Chelsea, given the low contract maturity.
“Christian Pulisic is a perfect player in terms of his character. I’m sure that in the coming months he’ll do everything in his power to bring his high quality to the team and to achieve his sporting objectives with his team-mates at Borussia Dortmund.”
Christian Pulisic is excellent dribbling the ball and is a good finisher in front of goal. He is one of many young players to impress at the eight times champions of Germany in recent seasons.
