Bayer 04 Leverkusen have signed Sweden international Isaac Kiese Thelin on a season-long loan from Belgian First League A side Anderlecht the club have confirmed.
The Bundesliga side have an option to buy the 26-year-old.
Thelin had an impressive season on loan in the Belgian top flight with Waasland-Beveren where he scored 16 goals in 25 league appearances earning him a place at the 2018 World Cup where he made four substitute appearances.
The forward stands at 6’2″ but prior to last season had never impressed in front of goal. He still has only two goals in 24 international appearances for the Scandinavian nation.
Leverkusen head coach Heiko Herrlich says the club’s latest acquisition offers them something different in attack:
“Kiese has developed really well in the Belgian league.
“He’s yet another option for our offensive game. We’ll have even more variety in our attack with him.”
It has been a busy summer for Bayer 04 Leverkusen who have also signed goalkeeper Lukáš Hrádecký from Eintracht Frankfurt, centre-back Aleksandar Dragović from English Premier League side Leicester City, Brazilian forward Paulinho, right-back Mitchell Weiser from Hertha Berlin and backup goalkeeper Thorsten Kirschbaum from 1. FC Nürnberg this summer.
