Mainz 05 have signed left-back Aarón Martín on a season-long loan from Spanish side Espanyol, the Rhineland-Palatinate club have confirmed.
The 21-year-old made 32 appearances for the La Liga outfit last season, previously making his debut as a teenager.
Martín is the latest of a number of signings made by Mainz this summer, including René Adler from HSV and Anthony Ujah from Liáoníng Hóngyùn.
The left-back likes to bring the ball forward and put crosses into the box, though he has never been involved in a single goal in his 66 La Liga appearances for the Barcelona-based club.
Mainz sporting director Rouven Schröder is hopeful his team’s latest signing can break into the Spanish national team in the near future:
“Aaron Martin is a very experienced player for his age.
“At 21, he has over 60 matches under his belt in the Primera Division. We are also convinced he looks set to break into the Spain first team soon. With his brilliant defensive style, strong technique and creativity, he will strengthen our squad from the get-go.”
Daniel Brosinski spent a lot of time at left-back for Mainz last season though the club were expected to sign a new player in this position this summer.
