English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur have agreed a deal with FC Schalke 04 to take playmaker Lewis Holtby to English football this month.
The 22-year old German international will move to London with immediate effect having already agreed a pre-contract deal that was originally meant to see Holtby move to White Hart Lane in the summer.
Lewis Holtby has an English mother and a German father but chose to represent the country he grew up in at international level after making his debut for Joachim Löw’s national side in November 2010. Any chance of playing for England was ruled out when Holtby played a Euro 2012 qualifying match against Azerbaijan in June 2011.
Successful loan spells with VfL Bochum and Mainz 05 proved invaluable before breaking into the first team at Schalke 04. Lewis Holtby has been linked to the English Premier League for a number of months. He is known to be an Everton fan.
