Hannover 96 have confirmed the loan signing of Johan Djourou from English Premier League side Arsenal through to the end of the season.
The Swiss international centre-back underwent his medical on Friday before being given the go ahead to join his new team-mates for Saturday morning’s flight to the Algarve, Portugal for training camp.
Hannover’s sporting director Jörg Schmadtke was happy with the experience the club have brought in:
“Johan Djourou’s an internationally-experienced professional who we are confident can bring something to the team very quickly. He’s just the kind of player we were looking for and is eligible to take part in our Europa League games as well.”
Head coach Mirko Slomka added they needed more depth in defence:
“With Felipe and Leon Andreasen both sidelined, we needed to do something at the back. With his strength, tactical awareness and commitment, I’m convinced he’s quite a catch for us.”
Johan Djourou has made 86 appearances for Arsenal, the club he signed for as a teenager back in 2003. His appearances this season had been limited.
