Peruvian forward Jefferson Farfan has agreed a new deal with FC Schalke 04 to remain at the club until 30 June 2016.
The news was broke inside the Veltins Arena by sporting director Horst Heldt some 45 minutes after the side’s 4-0 victory over Hertha Berlin on Saturday as confirmed on the club’s official website.
The victory ensured Schalke 04 will participate in next season’s UEFA Champions League having finished 3rd in the Bundesliga table – an automatic spot into next season’s elite European competition.
For a period of time it looked as though Jefferson Farfan could be on his way out of the club after original negotiations with their pacey forward were rejected. The Peruvian has scored 4 goals in 22 Bundesliga appearances this season with one game to play. Farfan has also made 9 appearances in the UEFA Europa League, as part of the Schalke side that reached the quarter-finals before being eliminated by Spanish side Athletic Bilbao.
Schalke finish their season at Werder Bremen on Saturday (5 May).
