1899 Hoffenheim’s creative midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson is heading back to English football and this time the Premier League, joining newly-promoted Welsh side Swansea City on loan for the remainder of the season.
The 22-year old Icelandic playmaker signed for the Bundesliga side from English Championship side Reading in 2010 and has gone on to play 36 games in the German top flight scoring 9 goals and providing 4 assists.
Hoffenheim’s sporting director Ernest Tanner had the following to say about his side’s departing player:
“Gylfi missed most of the pre-season preparations due to injury and never really got going subsequently. Our hope is that this loan arrangement will provide him with the necessary match practice to get back to his form of old.”
