Bayern Munich’s Bastian Schweinsteiger is set to be ruled out until the new year having suffered a broken collarbone in the team’s 3-2 win over Napoli in the Champions League last night.
The injury came after an aerial challenge with Gökhan Inler just after half time leaving the Bavarians vice-captain unable to train with the first team for at least 6 weeks.
Bastian Schweinsteiger underwent surgery in the early hours of this morning to have a metal plate inserted alongside his right shoulder. The centre midfielder will remain in hospital until Friday and requires 2 weeks of rest before he can return to light training.
Coach Jupp Heynckes had the following to say:
“His injury will hit us hard considering the fact he’s in fantastic form right now”.
FC Augsburg play host to Bayern Munich on Sunday.
