Bayer 04 Leverkusen have completed the signing of Italian under-21 international Giulio Donati from Serie A giants Internazionale.
The 23-year old right back recently played for the Italy under-21 side at the under-21 European Championships in Israel, losing 4-2 in the final to Spain.
Giulio Donati has signed a four-year contract at the Bay Arena through to 30 June 2017. The two clubs agreed not to disclose the transfer fee.
Bayer Leverkusen executive director Wolfgang Holzhauser has high hopes of the club’s latest signing:
“In Giulio Donati we have signed a young, aspiring player, who fits perfectly into the profile of team Bayer 04 Leverkusen. He was a mainstay in the successful Italian team at the under-21 European Championships in Israel. We are convinced that Donati will successfully fill the position of right-back.”
The new signing is looking forward to playing in the Bundesliga:
“Bayer 04 are a top club in Germany and also have a very good reputation in Italy. I’m looking forward to playing in the Bundesliga and, for me, personally being able to compete in the UEFA Champions League with Leverkusen is of course a very special challenge. I will be giving my all for Bayer 04 so that we achieve our targets.”
Giulio Donati had been an Internazionale player since joining their youth academy in 2008 but never made a single league appearance for the Nerazzurri.
Last season, the young Italian right back spent time on loan in Serie B with U.S. Grosseto. The previous two seasons he had been on loan to Padova and U.S. Lecce.
